Francesco Vanzaghi was born in 1976 in the province of Milan.
In 1995 he graduated from the Institute of Art “Galileo Galilei” and later attended the Castello Sforzesco's Art School.
At the turn of the twenty-first century, Vanzaghi worked predominantly on editorial projects concerning decorative subjects for magazines. During this period he did not leave painting, rather he intensified his individual artistic research, allowing him to realise this new technique as the most congenial to his artistic nature.
The themes of Vanzaghi’s work can often be traced back to his interests, most notably: music (having
been a drummer in the past), film noir and body expression.
In his painting practice, Vanzaghi has been coming to a final composition which is very close to the
real, passing through anatomies; some conceptual, personalized and even unreliable.
The darkness of the older paintings represents a decay of the present, which is then contrasted to the
timelessness of the backgrounds: characters stranded just before, or immediately after an event are more or less important.
Mercilessly nailed to the canvas, stripped of a structural context and light. This creates a connivance between the subject and the background: this fact seems to sometimes overwhelm the object represented.
The 'cards' that compose the object indicate days and times of living, or at least that which memory has retained.
The past, which so often peeps into the present of the human subject, collapses in 'splinters' of the background.
This indicates the future because all three elements are deeply interconnected and mutually influenced.
